Churchill

About me...

in picnic I was born in Hämeenkyrö, Finland in January 1971. I did my first oil painting when I was only one year old, thanks to my mother. Since then I have been obsessed with making pictures.

My playground as a child was a forest with a lookout tower in the middle, a museum and and an old white church. From there I took away with me exciting stories of goblins, trolls and fairies. I can also still remember the many shades of colours. Clear blue mornings with birds singing in the forest felt so soft and safe. In the dark purple dusk, the forest changed, too many scary shadows and wicked voices. These memories from the past are still with me in the present. Some of those fairytales become pictures, drawings and paintings.

The Thing In the 1990s, my occupation was ADP-designer so I often used computer programs for painting and drawing, like Deluxe Paint, Fractal Design Painter and Corel Draw. At that time, the computer enviroment was a different world from ordinary pencils and paints. After a neurological illness in 2000, everything stopped for a while. Now I have returned to traditional methods.

Beside painting I sometimes do lyrics and cover-arts for a few bands. I also did some music videos with our video-crew. The rest of my time take´s my family and pets. Husband and two daughters, which lives still in home and two dogs, a cat, a turtle and a rabbit. Our adult first-born child, a son lives in his own home.

Sources of inspiration.

- Everyday life: Home & Family, Relatives & Friends.
- Nature: I love sea, primeval forests hidden sanctuaries and magical, enchanting moonlight nights.
- Music: With moods, from the Classical to the Metal music. No Music, No Life.
- Computer- & Consolegames: For sure, something from captivating world of games has moved to my paintings.

The Moon and the Sun

Although mostly self-taught, I owe so much to many people for their teachings, advice, and inspiration. The object of my greatest worship has been and probably will always be French painter Claude Monet (1840 – 1926).
I love colours and I think that can be seen from my paintings. I also like fairytales, and I never stop wondering about the Universe around me.

I hope, that You can take a little bit magic with you from my pages,

Amalia

COMMENTS

  • "Largely self-taught, Amalia paints uninhibitedly and youthfully, and her colors glow radiantly. Each enchanting painting seems as if it is a page ripped out of a children’s book. Just as Claude Monet could make a landscape dreamlike, Amalia turns an ordinary pond or field of flowers magical when she smatters acrylic paint on canvas."

Angela Di Bello, Gallery Director of Agora Gallery - Chelsea, New York, USA

  • "Finnish artist Amalia paints the world of fairy tales and dreams with child-like innocence and freshness. The worlds she creates become stories where good is good and evil is evil and the difference is clear. She uses bright, often primary colors to portray this world; imagined as an escape or a refuge from our actual world."

David Genovesi, Gallery Director of ARTROM Gallery Rome, Italy

  • "Onneksi olkoon Amalia! Congratulations Amalia! You have been hardworking. You are a Finnish artist, who have kept Your ideals of beauty from youth. You are sensible and gifted in art and Your knowledge of computers, English language and comunication skils have now helped You to be a Member of Artrom. I hope that our frendship gos on.."

  • “Beautiful paintings, specially the combination and the harmony of the colours makes me happy.”

Tessema Temtime, an Ethiopian artist/ painter

  • "Many of Amalia`s themes are timeless! Her preferred colors have already reached maturity with a secretive fairy-tale like depth. No human being will ever have enough of her intense coloring. If anyone should be bored of her paintings has not understood her. Art is no matter of taste but of maturity. The way i see it her paintings will stay & prevail."

  • "I love your dark side. Your paintings are fun and innocent in style: because of this, these risky subjects get frisky- and exciting! "

David Hales, Artist from New York

  • "While you slightly change your visual language from time to time there is one thing consistent throughout your whole work: You reveal a rich inner world full of all kinds of beings that demand my interest. Who are they? What are their secrets? I think the subtle balance between revelance and rejection is a strong element in your art. "

Christian Kappertz, Artist from Wackernheim , Germany.
